Longtime asst. general manager adds ‘personal’ touch to one of Southern California’s best golf clubs
Tijeras Creek Golf Club is a throwback in one unique way – it puts the “person” back into the club’s “personality.” And everyone on property – including the newly appointed General Manager, Tom Horaney – contributes to this all-but forgotten concept.
Customer Service Leads the Way at Tijeras Creek Golf Club
Great customer service at Tijeras Creek Golf Club begins with the staff, which in several cases, has been with the club for decades running everything from tournaments and weddings to regular play. This provides the type of personalized service and friendship that used to be the hallmark of the game. Everybody knew the pro, and they leaned on him as the golf expert always at the ready for anything from a lesson to a quick update on the tour action that weekend.
Same goes for the barkeep. The traditional post-round whiskey is as old as the game itself, and the pal behind the bar did much more than pour the drink (neat, of course). He helped golfers commemorate good rounds or commiserate when things didn’t go well – as they often do. TJ’s Cantina feels like that type of place.
Tom Horaney Keeps the Tradition Alive
It is this genuine feel that lies at the heart of Tijeras Creek Golf Club’s appeal. Horaney’s appointment to General Manager is a great example.
“I’m humbled and honored to receive this promotion to General Manager at such an esteemed Southern California golf club,” said Horaney. “Our loyal guests are second to none, our experienced staff is the best in the business, and we are set to take Tijeras Creek to another level.”
Since 2007, Horaney has served as Assistant General Manager, as well as Food & Beverage Manager at Tijeras Creek. Under his watch, the club has increased food and beverage revenue by more than 40 percent, thanks in part to recent clubhouse and cantina renovations. And not only is TJ’s Cantina hopping, total rounds have increased steadily during his tenure.
Approval from the Top
“With his invaluable experience in the many facets of the operation at Tijeras Creek during the last 10 years, Tom was the natural choice to lead the club into the future,” said Phil Green, COO of OB Sports, the management firm for Tijeras Creek Golf Club. “The golf club, and its fantastic cardholders, are in great hands with Tom leading the charge.”
